Magnus Karlsson is a musician whose name has appeared in many of the album recommendations that I’ve posted on the Rock Radio NI website over the past six years. Often as member of a band such as Primal Fear, Starbreaker or The Ferrymen and quite frequently as a songwriter, guitarist or producer in other projects. This Friday (11th October), “A New Evil”, the second album from The Ferrymen is released by Frontiers Music and again it features Karlsson along with drummer Mike Terrana and outstanding vocalist Ronnie Romero.
I was able to have a chat with Magnus via Skype on 7th October to talk about The Ferrymen and the latest album. We also discussed Primal Fear, Kiske Somerville, Magnus Karlsson’s Free Fall, Starbreaker and his recent involvement on the new Sinner album. That interview was on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 11th October. The interview and three tracks are available from our MixCloud page -

“Devil In Me” is a five track EP that was released by English band Wicked Stone on 13th September. It follows the release of their debut album in 2017. I’d posted a recommendation for that release and tracks have been featured on the Friday NI Rocks Show and A-Z Show since then. The track “Couldn’t Take Anymore” from the new EP was included on the Friday NI Rock Show on 4th October.

There are two NI Rocks Shows uploaded each week on Rock Radio NI. These are the playlists for those shows for the month of September – all of which are still available from the On Demand Player. There are tracks by around 150 different artists on the Shows this month. Playlists for August were published previously and these Shows are also available via the On Demand Player – http://www.rockradioni.co.uk/news/rrni-updates/3653-ni-rocks-playlists-for-august-2019.html
This month the Friday NI Rocks Show included an interview with Todd Poole from Roxy Blue. I also posted e-mail interviews with Mariangela Demurtas from Ardours and Elias Salo from Block Buster.
I’ve been a fan of Kobra and the Lotus for quite a few years so their latest album “Evolution” was always going to be ‘must-have’ when it was released by Napalm Records on 20th September. I pre-ordered the vinyl picture disc and also bought the CD. The three singles from the new album had been sent to us by Napalm Records and these have featured on the Friday NI Rocks Show over the past few weeks.
