Seattle band Q5 released two albums in the mid 80’s before splitting, and now 30 years later are back with their third album called “New World Order”. This was released on 8th July through Frontiers Records. I definitely didn’t own either of the early Q5 albums and I’m not one of those blessed with the ability to seemingly remember the set-list of every gig they went to and every decent band they ever heard on the Friday Rock Show, Power Hour etc. So I listened to “New World Order” with no real expectations and I have to say I liked what I heard. There are some very 80’s sounding tracks and some that sound more modern. I played the track “The Right Way” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 10th June and “New World Order” on the Show on 22nd July.
The Dead Daisies blazing new single, ‘Join Together’, released today, July 22nd on Spitfire Music / SPV, is an uplifting new incarnation of the Who’s anthem ‘Join Together’, with excellent extra modern elements and tons of vibe added to the original. Vocalist John Corabi states that “We wanted to do ‘Join Together’ ‘cause it’s obviously ...
I recently published an interview with Fu Manchu bass player Brad Davis, which focused on his involvement in a new music project called Dunsmuir. The other members of the band are vocalist Neil Fallon from Clutch, former Black Sabbath drummer Vinny Appice and guitarist Dave Bone from The Company Band. The self-titled debut album from Dunsmuir was released through Hall of Records on 22nd July.
Dare are back with their first album of new material since 2009 and Darren Wharton and his colleagues have certainly impressed with this one. “Sacred Ground” was released on 15th July through Legend Records. Darren of course is probably best known as the keyboard player for Thin Lizzy, but his work with Dare should really put him in that ‘rock legend’ category on its own. I played the track “On My Own” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 3rd June and the opening track “Home” is included on the Show on 22nd July.
