The PR material for the new Rick Springfield album “The Snake King”, which was released via Frontiers Music on 26th January, advised you to more or less expect the unexpected! Even fore-warned I was caught rather unexpected by the new album. Following on from his previous album “Rocket Science”, I was anticipating something even more country inspired, but instead Springfield has gone down the blues route. The really unexpected delight however is the lyrical content – “Jessie’s Girl” it isn’t! Personally, I love the direction he has taken – others may not be so pleased! I included the track “The Devil That You Know” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 2nd February.

Mike LePond is best known as the bass player for Symphony X but in 2014 he established a side project called Mike LePond’s Silent Assassins which released an album of the same name. The band’s second album, entitled “Pawn and Prophecy” was released through Frontiers Music on 26th January. I included the track “Hordes of Fire” on the Friday NI Rocks Show on 2nd February.

There were two guests on the Friday NI Rocks Show this month – Marco Mendoza (talking about his new solo album, The Dead Daisies and much more) and Toschie from Audrey Horne (talking about the new album). There were also a couple of promotional segments on the Shows featuring Zakk Wylde and Magnum.
I didn’t know much about Norwegian based band Ammunition until they appeared amongst the upcoming Frontiers Music releases recently. When I saw that Erik Mårtensson of Eclipse and W.E.T. was part of the band I was rather keen to check out their self-titled album which was released via Frontiers on 26th January. The track “Freedom Finder” is included on the Friday NI Rocks Show this week.
